Cycle to the playground at Hof d’Intere
First, you’ll enjoy a peaceful bike ride through a landscape of forest and sand.
This area was once an extensive heathland. Starting in the 17th century, forests were increasingly planted on the heath. The sale of pine wood provided a welcome income for the residents of the impoverished villages in the Kempen region.
Vlimmeren was long administratively united with Wechelderzande, the other village along this bike route. When the two villages decided to go their separate ways, a barrier with a latch was placed on the road between them.
After junction 52, you’ll reach the first houses of the hamlet Salphen.
Here, pay close attention: at the first T-junction, the route officially turns right toward 54. However, take the left turn instead, following an alternative route that leads you straight to 91. This path takes you along a beautiful field road, far from any noise. However, be cautious: after wet weather, the mud can make cycling difficult, just as dry periods can create loose sand. By choosing this alternative route, you’ll almost miss the St. Anthony Chapel, located just 50 meters to the right of the T-junction. A father built this chapel during a plague epidemic after losing his three children.
At junction 91, you’ve already made significant progress on the bike ride.
During the summer months, you can enjoy fresh farm-made ice cream nearby. To reach it, leave the route briefly at 91 and head to Den Achtersten Dries farm (Einhoven 23).
In Wechelderzande, you’ll pass the municipal castle grounds of Hof d’Intere.
At the back of the park, you’ll find an adventurous playground. Wooden tables make this domain a perfect picnic spot. After Hof d’Intere, it’s just four kilometers of cycling back to the starting point.
