Cycle to the children's city of Turnhout
This bike trip is the shortest, safest, and most scenic route to the capital of the Kempen.
Begin your adventure by cycling through the dense forest of De Lilse Bergen and along the Zwartgoorheide, where grazing sheep prevent the natural spread of shrubs. Along the way, you’ll pass Kievits Venneken, a stunning pond that attracts amphibians and, in summer, surrounds you with the buzzing sound of insects.
After passing the Konijnenberg in Vosselaar, you’ll be nearly in Turnhout. Once in the city, explore the Nieuwe Kaai with its marina and charming eateries along the canal. Continue your route to the Grote Markt, where sunny days bring vibrant terraces, and Saturday mornings offer a bustling market to explore.
A highlight is the National Playing Card Museum, where you’ll learn about Turnhout’s rich history with card games. Marvel at antique printing presses and discover why Turnhout is a global hub for the graphic arts industry.
On your way back, cycle past Turnhout Castle, once the countryside residence of the Dukes of Brabant and now serving as a courthouse. Enjoy the return journey on the same route, taking in the beautiful nature and tranquility the Kempen region has to offer.
